This is a Mizukihara Asagi-type natural finishing stone, possessing exceptionally high suitability for straight razor honing applications. Mizukihara is one of the historic Kyoto natural whetstone regions long known among craftsmen and natural stone enthusiasts, and it is often said to produce stones very similar in character to those from the neighboring Ohira mines. Although this stone belongs to the relatively harder class, it is not excessively glassy, retaining a calm, refined sharpening feel with excellent tactile balance. When used for straight razors together with nagura, it is capable of producing an extremely fine and uniform slurry, allowing for a beautifully smooth yet keen edge with outstanding refinement and precision. It is also relatively easy to use with direct sharpening. While gently refining both the jigane and hagane, it develops a transparent luster and elegant finishing surface. Despite its harder nature, the sharpening sensation remains lively rather than muted, allowing the user to fully appreciate the quiet, slightly adhesive sharpening feel characteristic of vintage Kyoto natural stones. The stone surface displays a subdued grayish-blue tone, giving it an elegant and understated appearance without excessive visual flamboyance. Natural skin (kawa) remains beautifully preserved along the sides and back, contributing to the dignified scenery and atmosphere unique to vintage natural whetstones aged over many decades. Its slender form pairs particularly well with straight razors and smaller precision blades, making it especially suitable for delicate finishing applications. Please note that these are not for beginner sharpeners since they're harder to use. These are natural stones meaning that every single one of them are different so my measured size are not accurate. This is a life time investment for people who lives sharpening their knives and tools, do not hesitate to ask me your questions.” Dimension : 42-55mm ×90-160mm×24mm ( Approx.) Weight: 532g
