Japanese Natural Whetstone Shohonyama Hard Momijiyama Namito 828g Kyoto for razor 

This is a natural whetstone mined in the Momijiyama area of western Kyoto, Japan. Like many traditional Japanese natural whetstones, stones from this region have become increasingly scarce in recent years and are gradually becoming harder to find on the domestic market.

Momijiyama stones are generally known for their relatively straightforward and user-friendly character, while still offering good cutting performance and a distinctive natural slurry feel. Thanks to this well-balanced character, they have long been appreciated for a wide range of sharpening applications, from intermediate stages to finer finishing work.

This particular stone is comparatively hard and dense, with relatively slow water absorption and gradual slurry development. We recommend thoroughly lapping the surface with a diamond plate before sharpening, or using a Nagura stone to help raise slurry. It offers the distinctive sharpening feedback characteristic of Japanese natural stones and allows the edge to be refined while retaining a natural feel.

It is suitable for a wide range of applications and can be used as an intermediate stone for razors, as well as a finishing stone for knives, planes, chisels, and other edged tools.

Some light layer lines or hairline cracks are visible on the sharpening surface; however, at this grit range, we do not expect them to cause serious scratching during normal sharpening.

Recommended for those who appreciate the individual character of Japanese natural whetstones and the subtle differences in stone quality associated with different regions and sources.
