Description

Ozaki Hachimai Layer, we bought it from a domestic collector.

The Hachimai layer is positioned in the upper to mid levels of the Ozaki mountain stratigraphy, lying between the Tenjo-Suita layer of the Honkuchi-nari formation and the Senmai layer.

This layer shares characteristics similar to Tomae stones and is highly regarded for finishing applications.
Its abrasive particles are fine and evenly distributed, providing excellent stability during sharpening. As sharpening progresses, a dark slurry develops easily, which is one of its defining traits. Water absorption is slow and controlled, yet the stone delivers strong and consistent abrasive performance, making it easy to manage and control.

Steel swarf releases cleanly, allowing the sharpener to read the condition of the edge accurately, resulting in confident, hesitation-free finishing work.
Rather than producing a mirror-focused finish, the Hachimai layer creates a tight, practical edge with minimal “softness,” forming a well-defined, crisp edge profile.

The sharpening feel remains smooth throughout the process, making this stone well suited for knives, tools, and straight razors, especially for users who prioritize reliable sharpness and edge longevity.

Please note that these are not for beginner sharpeners since they're harder to use. These are natural stones meaning that every single one of them are different so my measured sizes are not accurate. Returns Policy
