*Rare!* Japanese Natural Whetstone Tozawa - to *Chunk* 2368g Grit #3000 from Gunma Pref. Free Shipping

Description

This Old Tozawa was quarried in the Tozawa area of Nanmoku Village, Kanra District, Gunma Prefecture.
Although it was once sold under the name "Numata Tora-to," it is in fact a different type of stone.

Before World War II, tiger-striped stones ( Tora - to ) were extracted from the upper layer above this Tozawa. However, the deposit was eventually exhausted, and the mine was closed.
After the war, a new vein was discovered, and mining resumed. This new material turned out to be a medium grit stone.
Rather than changing the name, it continued to be marketed under the more familiar "Numata Tora-to" name, especially in the Kanto region, though among those in the know, it was commonly referred to as "Tozawa-to."

Mining operations ceased by the late 1960s, and Tozawa stones became widely used across eastern Japan as a representative medium grit whetstone.
This particular stone appears to have been processed during the 1960s and still bears a “Tora-to” label on its side.
Compared to Numata stones, its grit is finer—around #3000—and it consistently produces a gray, mild slurry, making it an excellent stone for sharpening.

Please note that these are not for beginner sharpeners since they're harder to use. These are natural stones meaning that every single one of them is different so my measured sizes are not accurate. This is a lifetime investment for people who live sharpening their razors  and tools, do not hesitate to ask me your questions
