This item was purchased by us from a Japanese university professor whose family was moving.Previously, the professor lived with his parents in two households, so we purchased fair a few of Japanese tableware from the Showa period (AD1926-1989) In goos condition. ＊Replica of Ancient Haniwa Artifacts＊

Haniwa are unglazed terracotta figurines unique to Japan's Kofun period, often arranged on top of burial mounds (kofun). They are distributed across ancient burial sites throughout Japan.

Haniwa were made from the late 3rd century to the late 6th century, disappearing along with the keyhole-shaped kofun. They are generally hollow. There are various types, including human and animal-shaped haniwa, which were often arranged in rows or groups. Some theories suggest they represent funeral rituals, while others propose they depict scenes from the political and religious life of the deceased. The evolution of haniwa is believed to reflect the changing views on rituals and the perception of life and death during the Kofun period.
