Please check the photos. This is a natural Ozuku Asagi finishing whetstone from Kyoto, with an approximate hardness of 4.5 and an estimated grit of #10,000 or higher. It is well suited for the final finishing of straight razors, planes, chisels, Japanese kitchen knives, and Western-style knives.

The stone has the dense, fine abrasive structure characteristic of high-quality Ozuku finishing stones. Although firm, it is not excessively hard or glassy, allowing the blade to engage comfortably with the surface. This makes it relatively easy to use while providing clear feedback and a stable, controlled sharpening experience.

It offers ample cutting power and gradually produces a fine, refined slurry that smoothly develops the edge to a high level of sharpness. Swarf releases readily from the surface, minimizing loading and preventing slurry and metal particles from adhering excessively to the blade. This makes it easier to monitor the condition of the edge throughout the sharpening process.

The stone can be used effectively on its own, but a nagura stone may be used to generate slurry more quickly and increase the sharpening speed. Adjusting the type of nagura and the consistency of the slurry also allows the user to soften the initial contact and refine the edge progressively.

With its excellent balance of cutting ability, ease of use, and refined finishing performance, this stone is especially recommended for the final honing of straight razors, as well as for bringing out the sharpness of planes and chisels and creating precise, finely finished edges on kitchen knives.
