This is a Renge Suita from Yaginoshima, one of the traditional Nishimono whetstone-producing areas of western Kyoto. The stone features a beautiful white base color with elegant Renge (lotus) patterns distributed throughout its surface, making it well suited for the finishing of kitchen knives, Japanese planes, chisels, and other edged tools. Its compact size also makes it convenient to carry and easy to handle.

In recent years, Yaginoshima Renge Suita stones of this quality have become increasingly difficult to find on the market, making this a particularly scarce and desirable example.

The stone has a medium hardness and quickly generates a fine black slurry once sharpening begins. It offers excellent control, a smooth and pleasant sharpening feel, and consistently stable sharpening performance.

In addition to producing the refined, elegant finish that quality natural whetstones are known for, this stone provides the rich and satisfying sharpening experience that only a premium natural whetstone can offer.

Please note that these are not for beginner sharpeners since they're harder to use.These are natural stones meaning that every single one of them are different so my measured size are not accurate. This is a life time investment for people who lives sharpening their knives and tools, do not hesitate to ask me your questions.”
