Description

Please check the photos. This is a Namito whetstone from the Namito layer of Aiwatani, Kyoto.

It is well suited for finishing kitchen knives and carpentry tools, and can also be used as a pre-finisher for razors. The stone is moderate hardness, and has a grayish slurry during sharpening.

With a compact size roughly comparable to a small deck of playing cards, this is a convenient stone that can easily be carried for outdoor use or travel.

A layer crack can be seen near the center of the stone. During testing, a slight tactile catch was noticeable in that area, but at this grit level it does not directly cause scratching on the blade surface.

For those who are concerned, we recommend either avoiding that section during use or carving out the affected area before sharpening.

Please note that these are not for beginner sharpeners since they're harder to use. These are natural stones meaning that every single one of them are different so my measured sizes are not accurate. This is a lifetime investment for people who live sharpening their knives and tools, do not hesitate to ask me your questions.”
