Japanese Natural Whetstone Shohonyama Nakayama Asagi 691g #10000

Description

This is a Nakayama Asagi, a natural finishing whetstone from Kyoto. With a hardness rating of Lv. 5.0, it is exceptionally dense and hard, and absorbs water slowly.

The brown areas on the sharpening surface are known as yake, which may raise concerns about the stone’s consistency. In our sharpening test, however, the difference in feel between these areas and the surrounding stone was slight. The yake on the left side of the surface appears shallow when viewed from the side. As the stone is lapped over time, we expect this area to approach the same asagi-gray color as the rest of the surface.

To make the most of its hard, dense structure, we recommend raising a slurry with a nagura and using it to finish straight razors. We have tested the stone and assessed the yake in its present condition before offering it for sale.

Please note that these are not for beginner sharpeners since they're harder to use. These are natural stones meaning that every single one of them are different so my measured size are not accurate. This is a life time investment for people who lives sharpening their knives, razors and tools, do not hesitate to ask me your questions

Returns Policy
