Japanese Natural Whetstone Shohonyama Nakayama Karasu 423g Kyoto

Description

This is a Nakayama Karasu finishing stone from Kyoto, acquired from a private collector. As shown in the photographs, the distinctive Karasu ("crow") pattern extends beautifully from the sharpening surface down the side of the stone.

The stone has a hardness of approximately Lv. 4.5+ and performs best when used with a Mikawa nagura or a similar conditioning stone.

When tested without a nagura, it produced a smooth sharpening feel while gradually generating a fine, blackish slurry. The visible lines on the sharpening surface are not toxic lines (suji) and will not interfere with sharpening or come into contact with the cutting edge during normal use.

Its exceptionally fine abrasive particles make it an excellent choice for the final finishing of delicate blades, including straight razors and high-end kitchen knives. It produces an extremely keen, refined edge with outstanding edge retention, allowing the blade to maintain its sharpness for an extended period.

Combining outstanding sharpening performance with the unique beauty of Nakayama Karasu, this is a highly desirable finishing stone for both demanding users and collectors alike.

Please note that these are not for beginner sharpeners since they're harder to use.These are natural stones meaning that every single one of them are different so my measured size are not accurate.
