This is a Karasu-pattern natural whetstone quarried from the Aisa layer of Ozaki. It is suitable for everything from finishing kitchen knives to the pre-finishing stages of straight razors.

Ozaki has long been recognized as one of Kyoto's respected natural whetstone-producing areas and has earned a particularly strong reputation among barbers, razor users, and craftsmen. Dense, hard examples are especially prized for their ability to produce exceptionally keen and refined edges with remarkable clarity and precision.

This stone comes from the long-held collection of a Japanese natural whetstone enthusiast. Having been carefully preserved for many years, it retains the distinctive atmosphere and character of older Kyoto natural stones that are becoming increasingly difficult to find on today's market.

The stone exhibits an exceptionally dense and uniform structure, combined with a calm and elegant appearance. Despite its hardness, it offers a smooth and highly controllable sharpening feel while generating a fine and delicate gray slurry during use.

It is particularly well suited as a pre-finisher for straight razors, helping to refine the edge before the final finishing stage. It also performs beautifully on kitchen knives and smaller edged tools, producing a delicate kasumi finish with attractive contrast between the hagane and jigane.

Please note that these are not for beginner sharpeners since they're harder to use. These are natural stones meaning that every single one of them are different so my measured sizes are not accurate.
