Japanese Natural Whetstone Vintage Asahi Tiger Mark Dense Aoto Lv.3.5+ 1722g

Description

This is a natural Shohonyama Aoto whetstone from Asahi Tora-jirushi (SUN TIGER BRAND). The label on the stone reads “Quarried in Tamba Province” and “Honyama Aoto,” while the end bears the tiger-mark sticker of Matsunaga Toishi, now well known for its KING synthetic whetstones. The original box is also included, preserving the character of this branded stone.

Its estimated grit is approximately #3,000. It is well suited to medium finishing: after the edge has been established on a medium stone, it refines the sharpening marks before the final stage. It can be used for kitchen knives, planes, and chisels, and makes a useful step before a natural finishing stone.

The subdued brownish-gray stone and the distinctive Asahi Tiger labels add to its appeal. It is a whetstone to use and enjoy while appreciating the history of Tamba Aoto.

Please note that these are not for beginner sharpeners since they're harder to use. These are natural stones meaning that every single one of them are different so my measured sizes are not accurate. This is a lifetime investment for people who live sharpening their tools, do not hesitate to ask me your questions.”
