This is a vintage Ozuku Tomae natural finishing stone from Kyoto, rated at Hardness Lv.4.5. It was acquired from a private collector in Japan.
Although compact in size, its sharpening feel and the quality of the finished edge rival those of premium natural finishing stones, including the highly regarded Nakayama Kurumaguchi.
Its structure is exceptionally fine and dense, providing excellent abrasive power and fast cutting performance. The characteristic fine slurry produced by Ozuku stone helps create an exceptionally keen and beautifully refined edge. The stone is also highly wear-resistant, allowing it to maintain stable and consistent performance over many years with minimal wear.
It allows the user to achieve a mirror-polished edge smoothly and comfortably. Despite its modest dimensions, this stone performs far beyond what its size might suggest. As high-quality vintage Ozuku stones become increasingly difficult to obtain, this is an outstanding piece that offers both excellent practical performance and strong collectible appeal. It can be confidently recommended to both dedicated natural whetstone enthusiasts and serious collectors.
Please note that these are not for beginner sharpeners since they're harder to use. These are natural stones meaning that every single one of them are different so my measured size are not accurate. This is a life time investment for people who lives sharpening their tools, do not hesitate to ask me your questions.
